New on the site, got my solution from here so I thought I would add my experience. On an emachines T6212 I had a partial boot condition that kept getting worse, if I did get it to boot into Windows a black screen was soon to come. It would get to right after the memory scan and lock up, the hard dive sounded like it was not running too (when it did run it was noisy). After unplugging all the non essential USB devices and unplugging the power cord I got a blue start button light that I could not shut off unless I shut the power supply switch. So after reading this thread I decided to blow out the dust and replace the CMOS battery because it was 11 yrs.old and I had a new one on hand. Started it up, changed the date and time and it runs like new, quiet (?) too. I was 100% sure it was the drive and ready to open it up....Thanks!
